More than 180 enforcement actions were taken during a joint traffic enforcement operation conducted by the Florida Highway Patrol and Manatee County Sheriff’s Office on August 6 along the Interstate 75 corridor in Manatee County.
During the four-hour initiative, Manatee County Sheriff’s Office traffic deputies issued 81 traffic citations and 22 warnings, with nearly 80 percent of the citations involving speeding or violations that place motorists and first responders at risk, including 48 speeding citations, 15 Move Over Law violations, and one Super Speeder citation.
Deputies also cited drivers for:
Driving While License Suspended – 3
Expired Registration – 4
Window Tint Violations – 4
No Proof of Insurance – 4
Left Lane Violation – 1
No Driver License – 1
The operation was designed to improve safety along one of the region’s busiest highways by targeting aggressive driving, excessive speed, Move Over Law violations, and other hazardous traffic offenses that contribute to crashes.
The Florida Highway Patrol lead the effort by conducting 67 traffic stops, issuing 56 citations and 21 warnings. Troopers’ enforcement focused on many of the same violations, including speeding, Move Over Law violations, Driving While License Suspended, seatbelt violations, following too closely, and proof of insurance violations.
Combined, the two agencies issued 137 citations and 43 warnings during the operation.
