Sarasota News:
Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMH) was recognized today in Forbes’ inaugural list of America’s Best Employers for Healthcare Professionals.
Forbes, in collaboration with Statista, produced the list of America’s Best Employers for Healthcare Professionals 2025 following an independent survey of more than 17,000 U.S. employees working for healthcare and social welfare providers employing at least 1,000 people within the United States. Participants rated their employers on personal recommendations and criteria that included wages, working conditions and schedules, career advancement opportunities and safety. The scoring system factored in additional surveys that identified sustained performance over the past three years.
Ultimately, 250 healthcare organizations, including SMH, made the list of top-ranked employers in 2025. Sarasota Memorial was ranked among the top five healthcare employers in Florida and was the only healthcare employer recognized in the Suncoast region.
With more than 10,000 employees, SMH is the largest employer in Sarasota County and among the largest in southwest Florida. Founded in 1925, the community-owned hospital’s vision has long been “to the best place to be a patient, the best place to work and the best place to practice medicine.” Sarasota Memorial CEO David Verinder said the organization owes its reputation and success to its dedicated team and their unwavering public mission.
“Throughout Sarasota Memorial’s 100-year history, people have always been our health system’s greatest asset,” Verinder said. “We are especially proud to receive this award during SMH’s centennial and recognize our team’s contributions and commitment to the community we serve.”
Today’s recognition adds to SMH’s growing list of workplace awards, including earning top honors in Forbes’ lists of America’s Best-in-State Employers and Best Employers for Women in 2025, and Gallup’s Exceptional Workplace Award in March 2025.
